1) How many pairs of chromosomes are in each somatic cell?
2) How many pairs of chromosomes are in egg or sperm?

2) none

Yes, that is right. The X and the Y pair up during metaphase.

46 chromosomes. The number of chromosomes stays the same after mitosis.
