let n be the number of movies

7n = 360 + 4n

and since you only asked for an expression i shall go no further

To see Y movies at a theatre costs $7 for each movie, so the total cost is $7 * Y, or 7Y.

To buy a DVD player and rent Y movies to see on it costs $360 for the player (obviously a good one!) and $4 for each of the Y movies, so the total cost is 360 + 4Y.

The "break-even" point will occur when these two are equal, that is:
7Y = 360 + 4Y
Taking the 4Y over to the left, we get
7Y - 4Y = 360
=> 3Y = 360
=> Y = 120

So if you're going to watch fewer than 120 movies, it's cheaper to just watch them at the theatre. If you want to watch more than 120 movies, it's cheaper to buy a DVD player and rent them out (but not as much fun!). If you watch exactly 120 movies both will cost the same amount.

Hope this helps, have you considered transportation cost to and from the theatre? the long queues ? Or the power bill for your DVD player? the convenience of watching at home instead of the theatre where inconsiderate pricks with cellphones ruin everything? I say buy a DVD player. You can watch the movie over and over again at your own time. Then probably sell the DVDs when you had enough. get some $$ back.

cost of seeing movies at theaters
m=7y

to watch DVD's
d=360+5y

to break even you would have to watch 180 movies.

7y=360+5y
2y=360
y=180
