I have a leather motorcycle jacket and I'm wanting to put my group name on the back. What can I use (preferably something that isn't fully permanent)

You could create a stencil, or map out with a pencil the logo or design that you want on it, I've done this before with my leather.

As for tatting it up, I would say use a paint pen, I got some on a vest of mine, and it would not come off at all and is doing fine up until this day... the problem with that is the fact that you stated something that isn't fully permanent, I guess that only depends on how hard it is you want to work to get it off.

Good luck.

In my younger days I was part of a motorcycle club for a while...what I remember is that most of the patches, emblems and all were cloth and were actually sewn onto the jackets. I do also remember however some stenciling going on. I dont remeber exactly how it was done....

Dont mess with leather - its permanent whatever you put on it. Go to a professional for help

You could cut letters out of "vegetable"tanned (tooling) leather, sew them on, and can cut the thread holding it on if you want to remove them.
OR, you could go this route:
