San serif fonts like Ariel or veranda are easiest to read and clearest. I would always go for one these; any workplace which is trying to comply with the disability discrimination act will use them since they are more suitable for people wo have visual impairments.

Both Arial and Verdana are SANS SERIF font, and as clearly explained in my recent article both fonts lend themselves well to be used in "information" uses rather than in telling stories.
Sans Serif fonts excel particularly when used for conveying short information items like titles, captions, callouts, figure numbers, references and other short textual information.
As Verdana is particularly effective when used at very small font sizes, Arial stands out as the clear leader when needing to creating readable and professional looking titles.
Remember not to be influenced by your own personal taste and experience, which can be highly misleading when attempting to create a presentation that is:
1. more readable (more understandable)
2. professionally-looking (more credible).
Overall Arial is a more formal and established font face, while Verdana is a highly characterized and optimized typeface best used in those instances where electronic display at very small sizes makes short text-based information items hard to read.
Having said all the above, I underline the need for flexibility, and for breaking the rules when necessary.
Rule-breaking is especially allowed when:
1. You have been designing according to the rules all the way until now.
2. You want to achieve greater consistency and readability.
3. You are a skilled, experienced and much sought after designer and you want to give preference to your personal style, dismissing your target audience as not being the key factor determining how things should really look.
To summarize:
Arial best use: Main titles, short text inside tables, section header, menu titles, etc.
Verdana best uses: Captions, legend text, callouts, very small text labels, etc.

well I agree with the views of most people here. Arial or Times New Roman are the best. The reader doesn't have to 'struggle' when reading, they are 'smart' fonts and just what you are looking for - professional!
