Well this rivalry isnt just about soccer. Its very political too. With the US president allowing mexicans across the border for work(to do the jobs that americans wont) and then some Americans may be angry for the simple fact that we have illegal aliens in our country. The bitterness is not just with the soccer players unfortunately. Yes I am a soccer fan and yes I did watch the whole game. Mexico controlled the ball for pretty much the whole game, but thats not always how games are won, example this game. As for Donovan, I know athletes are required so many interviews with media and maybe he met his requirements. Yes its your opinion if you THINK Donovan showed no class in not interviewing with Univision but its HIS choice. I think Donovan has some class as he helped players up when he fouled them. Did any Mexican players do that? No. But this rivalry is good for the US as it will help develop soccer in the US more effectively(hopefully). No I dont hate Mexico either. Great culture.

Who knows, but the fact they did is bringing out plenty of ignorance on the part fans. The "best answer by Asker" is obvious to this.He mentions "get some education and maybe you would have money to spend and travel instead of wasting time on racist rants". You should practice what you preach brother. What ignorance. Did you even proof read your tirade? Talk about a racist rant. What does soccer have to do with Latinos and the amount of foreign languages they speak as opposed to American whites and their abilities. I speak 2 languages. What about that? What about other nationalities in the USA that don't speak 2 languages. Are you better than them because of being biligual? How ignorant. I've been to Mexico and so have plenty of Americans. ( All colors of Americans).I never lived in a trailer park or do I even know where there is one. What an ignorant comment on your part. You should save money to travel and learn. What does soccer have to do with baseball and boxing? Or what place USA or Mexico was in the world cup. I believe that on any given day the 2 teams can play and the outcome would be different. Whether it's luck or not.
The bottom line is this. One team won and one lost. What an ignorant comment on your part. Sportsmanship is lacking at all levels. Athletes as well as fans. Donovan was just as ignorant as the Mexican team. Ignorance is apparent. Like love, it comes in all colors. You should get an education instead of wasting your time on racist rants. One world one game.

first of all, i am tired of hearing mexicans say how they 'always dominate' the US national team. bullshit. since 2000, when we really started playing soccer, we have lost to you guys twice. TWICE. DOS. we have won 7 times. siete. so, yeah, review yourself. you said it wasn't the real mexican team? oh yeah?? well every guy on the team i have heard of before. especially borghetti and marquez.

as for the political reasons that people hate the US, that is superflous. this is soccer. sport. not politics. if the US is so bad, then why are there 11 million illegal immigrants from mexico right now? 85% of most central american countries income is generated from workers sending their earnings home. if it weren't for our lawns being cut, and our buildings being constructed, latin america would be worse off than it already is. but i guess that is OUR fault once again.

instead of pointing fingers, how about doing something about it?? look at venzuela and argentina and brazil. they aren't bitching and complaining, they are doing something about it. even though chavez is a nut job, at least he is doing something for his own people. and brazil is the next big thing. they will one day rival the US for influence in the americas. with no help from us. so, get the hell over yourself.

we whip your asses in soccer, and know this: we are beating you now with most of the country not even giving a **** about this sport. most of our best athletes are tied up in other sports. so just wait when baseball and basketball continue to dwindle in popularity like they are, and more and more kids keep playing soccer after the age of 14. then you will see how we will never loose to you guys, and we will also win a world cup before mexico.

get used to it.

People of Mexico's overall relationship or view of the US isn't necessarily the best. You would think professional athletes would be diifferent, but from what I know, many people in Mexico take a lot of pride in their soccer team, so I'm sure the players are just the same. Since I don't know the definite answer, see this as no more than my theory or opinion.

Please, It has nothing to do with "pride" or geopolitical issues, their team is full of bad sports and sore losers. Did everyone see the GK try to plant his cleats in Johnson's legs after the second goal was scored? That tells you what kind of attitude the team has. Calm down Mexico, the USA doesn't even care about football and doesn't even know its national team played a game, except for the Mexican-Americans and hardcore football fans.

pride is the answer ,i a mexican and is a shame of my people showing the cane of education,i think the american people have a lot of pride to, all people need to learn how to accept all people winning ore lossing , we need to learn that is only a game , we not figthing to see who is the best, mexicans and americans have good athlets, like others countrys,we yes need to accept wining or lossing the same way on both teams and we need to learn from the mistakes we make ,and try to be better on the way we judge each other

This isn't a friendly rivalry; politically or athletically. There's also the fact that since 2000 the US are 6-0-1 at home against Mexico outscoring them 11-0.

How classy is the US team. Did you see Landon the European reject, taunting after he got a lucky bounce from the ref on the second goal. Americans are hated around the world. Its not because of race, everyone hates the US because of their arrogance. How far did the US make it in the WC2006 Germany??? And how far did Mexico make it?? Check Mexico's record vs BRAZIL, ARGENTINA. Teams that matter. Remmember the US has several weeks practicing and the Mexican team has about 3 days of practice. Nuff Said!

its just simple, their rivals.... you really dont see yankee players go shake the hands of players from boston... so when we loose to our rivals it sucks thats all, fans are the ones who start to act stupid, so if i see my rival making fun of me i would get pissed off... USA did their game wich was to defend and counter attack, and it worked for them, mexico didnt have luck scoring because our forward just suck lol.. borgetti cant even make a simple pass or score with his feet, soccer uses everything, and why take out Medina when hes doing well, he creates danger on his part. seriously why have borgetti play 90 mins when he hasnt really played in the last 6-8 months....

No clue man. I think they hate us. I love Mexican food, but since joining Yahoo Answers and seeing exactly how much they all hate us, I've stopped going to the restaurants. I'll settle for a boring burger just to be safe. I wish we didn't play each other at all. No sense in rivalry without some sportsmanship. It ruins a great game.
