Yeah... August of 1962 is right, Amazing Fantasy #15. Ironically enough, that run of Amazing Fantasy ended with that comic, only to have Spider-Man come out later with his own title. Since then, he's endeared himself to millions of fanboy nerds like myself who at one time or another, have been outcasts or wallflowers or loners simply because they were, well, nerds.... but look at him now, he kicks butt and has a hot wife to boot, not to mention some serious earning power with all those cool photos!
