Mandi,,
Ever seen a Key Blank?
It's just straight,,no dips and teeth,etc.
To cut a key,,,all that's done is to cut Notches in it.
There's usually 5 standard Notch depths
The Key Code is 2 part;
The Position on the blank,,#'s 1 thru 5
And the Depth of the cut,,usually #'s 1 thru 5
When you "get a Copy of a key made" where your old key is used as a pattern,,,
That is a Key DUPLICATOR.
It duplicates the existing contour of your old key.
If Old key is worn or damaged,,,so will be your "new key"
It's a Twin of the old key,,right or wrong.
When you get a key actually MADE from the Code,,
It uses the Standard Notch Depth----so any wear or damage to Existing Key is NOT a factor.
The sequence and depth of the pattern can be interpretted from an existing key to determine the "Code".
Then Fresh,Accurate Cuts can be cut on the New Key Blank.
Short Version:
It's Not Rocket Science,,,and no big mysterious thing.
Go to an actual Locksmith company that "MAKES KEYS" from the Key Code.
Not a Hardware Store or AutoParts that "DUPLICATES KEYS" by using yours as a physical pattern
Go to a Locksmith,,they will use your Key to "read it's Code".
Then they'll cut that CODE on a new key.
Not merely duplicate the profile of your old one.
Doesn't cost much more,,if any at all ,,than getting key copied .
Make certain it's a CUT/PUNCHED/or NIBBLED Key,
and not a DUPLICATED Key cut on a pattern tracer("normal" hardware store key copier"
Any locksmith will know exactly what you're talking about.
Lots of Car Dealers have Hand Nibblers to punch a key.
If you DONT have a key,,they use the VIN to get the code.
If you HAVE a key,,,the code is right there in their hand
Hope that helps
***Once you get a New key that works properly,,,
get some Cheap Copies made.
Keep One UNUSED as a Master Key---to use in future if necessary.
You can scan in a shot of your key to your PC if you got a scanner,,,and Email it to Yourself.
If youre ever traveling or whatever and lose your keys,,,you can get the profile from your email,,from any PC
It'd be nice if the Locksmith told ya the actual CODE too,,,write it down & keep it.
But if a Locksmith can SEE even a picture,,,all the Notches are 'Standards",,,they're NOT unique, random measurements,,
they can make a key from that picture.
WE allllll do it,,,but a Big wad of keys & heavy key chains are hell on Lock Mechanisms.
Wears them out surprisingly fast.
Thats Expensive.
Not to mention the risk of getting stuck somewhere cuz lock wont work.

You should have memorize the key number. In that way, the auto dealer can give you as many original key as you want, ofcourse you gonna pay for it, maybe around 500 to 600 pesos foreach.
or...
You can visit a Locksmith. Their shop is located along the highways and some are in nearby towns.
Hey! Just change the locks because some locksmith make a key for themselves as well. He or she might rob your car.
Have a nice day.

i own a repair shop, and depending on the year of the car you might not be able to use the Vin number to have one made,id have a lock smith come out and make me a pair of good keys for this car,and yes it would be a lot cheaper than having all the locks changed,i just got done doing this on my Nissan because someone tried to steal it,and i put all of them in,and it cost me around 180 bucks for everything, which still wasn't bad,i got everything with 4 keys also so that wasn't really bad,but i didn't charge my self labor either ,so that makes a big difference, good luck,i hope this help,s.

DO NOT CHANGE THE KEY!!!!
the dealer has a system ,to do the original key.
it goes by the VIN number.
it is (relatively)not expensive
it won't hurt to ask the dealer.

hrmmm check with the local locksmith in yer town...
but...it is time consuming and could cost more than the parts to just replace it....it would take a good locksmith about an hour to change and rekey all the locks on your car...to rekey and pick the lock on your existing locks...could take alot longer and your paying for him to figure out all that.
if it were my car...i would rekey the whole thing...its cheaper...

Not terribly expensive. Call a local locksmith. They can usually do it on the spot.
