"I'm Gonna' Wash That Man Right Outta' My Hair" from South Pacific
OR
"I Cain't Say NO" from Okalhoma
Both of those songs seem to be more dramatic and less difficult in a singing range.
GOOD LUCK!! ; )

Do NOT sing A Whole New World. If it is a HS performance, they will have heard 170000 times and they will be thinking about past people who have done it. Defying Gravity is very hard. What I would suggest is the beginning of "All That Jazz" from Chicago...or "I've Got Rhythm" from Crazy For You!
Good Luck! I tried out for my musical thinking i wouldnt make it but i got a callback and the director said i had lots of potential for a lead role this or next year. TOO BAD I COULD NOT DO IT BECAUSE OF TENNIS SEASON!!!
By the way, if you are not a great singer, sing something that will require a lot of emotion and acting because that is a HUGE aspect!

You have many options, but here is a list of songs that you do NOT want to do, mostly because they are overdone or many other people will be using them:
-Anything from Phantom of the Opera, especially "music of the night" and "think of me"
-"Somewhere over the rainbow" from the Wizard of Oz
-Anything from the "It" musical on Broadway (right now this would be Wicked)
-"On My Own" from Les Miserables
-"Seasons of love" from Rent
-"I'm Gonna wash that man right out of my hair" from South Pacific
-"Memory" from Cats
-"Tomorrow" and "Maybe" from Annie
-"All That Jazz" from Chicago
This is not to say that they are not good songs, but they are not ideal for a vocal audition
You can try "Everything's coming up roses" from Gypsy, "A ******** Optimist" from South Pacific, or "Mama Will Provide" from Once on this island which are all very good songs and are not heard as often at auditions. I hope this helped.

that's tricky..for some reason "i will survive" comes to mind just cuz it'd be fun to act out and get into it. She can put on quite a show with that song and if she does it well that's what will make the audience enjoy it and take some of the attention off the singing. Any song like that should be fine

I would try "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" -- it's a relatively easy song to sing. There are no extremely high notes or extremely low notes.

If you want a soft song, you might try "WHole new World" from Aladdin with a lot of hand gestures pretending to be showing stuff, or maybe try something from the wiz, or wicked maybe. defying gravity's last verse is kind of easy

"Adelaide's Lament" from "Guys and Dolls". Although this is a "belty" song, you are supposed to be "sick" when you sing it so you can kind of talk-sing it for your audition. Break-a-leg!
