Yes. The NCAA universities do not make any distinction between those students admitted with a GED, and those with a high school diploma, after they are admitted. Once you are an official student, you don't have to have an athletic scholarship to try out for the football team. As long as you can keep up your grades, you can qualify to try out for a team. This doesn't guarantee that you will be accepted by the program...the number of "walk-ons" that make the team in a major university must be small; however, some do make it every year.

GEDs are acceptable as long as you still meet the minimum acceptance requirements. Some universities (and not just "good" ones) have very specific requirements for the courses you must have taken as a minimum in high school prior to attending college.
In addition, every student athlete must go through the NCAA clearinghouse process to further validate their status and eligibility for collegiate athletics. This is typically just more paperwork, but it does offer a closer look at your pre-college courses to make sure you're not just some jock trying to make a name in college football without earning the right to be there.
The first link below is an example of a Division I school's requirements for student athletes. Not all schools are identical, mind you, but this is a basic description of the process and requirements.
The second link is the official NCAA recruiting and eligibility guidelines homepage. The college sports Bible, per se.

Yeah... as long as you have never been a paied for plaing sports( such as minor leage baseball for Ex.) And who ever said that you can get in to a university with a GED.... well your wrong... A GED is worth about a 3.0 GPA in HighSchool. And besides 65% of High Schools seniors can't pass the GED Test anyways.

Yes, given you meet all of the academic eligibility requirements. The ged would only affect admissions.
