I see this as an attempt to make buckets of money while at the same time trying to make small children into Beatles fans. While Disney and Robert Zemeckis both make very charming children's movies, I don't see Yellow Submarine as something I'd take my kids to see. As far as crass commercialism is concerned- I don't see this project as being any better or any worse than the other films that featured Beatles songs. "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," which included tons of celebrities of the late '70s, was so bad it was good. "Across the Universe" was contrived, but fun. Something to keep in mind about the original "Yellow Submarine:" the Beatles did not do the voices for the characters. Granted, the film featured several Beatles songs, and the score was composed by George Martin (who not only produced the Beatles, but did most of the orchestration in their songs). While the Beatles did make a brief cameo at the end of the film, they did not write it, nor did they do any of the artwork for the film. To fully appreciate the original film, you have to keep it in the context of the late '60s. My conclusion: I'm sure the remake will be cute and people will go see it, but I don't see it as becoming a classic or iconic movie.

I disagree - it was great!
I went to the cinema on a very quiet Bank Holiday Monday to watch Lady in the Water. I had a voucher for Buy one Get one Free ticket so I chose to see Snakes on a Plane in the morning before LITW. I was the only person in the screen during S O A P (wow - the initials spell soap!) and I too have never laughed so much. When Samuel L Jackson mentions the M**ha F***ing snakes that is a line that will go down in film history for me.
It was definately one of the best films!

Your totally backwards man that as the most AMAZING movie EVER! I mean it makes saving private ryan look like a middle school play. You don't know what your talking about. Ok so it wasn't the greatest movie ever but if you took it as hey this is going to be a crazy ridiculous movie about snakes then it was pretty good, at least everyone I knwo thought so.

I have seen a few that were even worse, but... yesssss (lame snake joke) it was pretty dang awful! Horrible even... It would have played well in 3D though with the small space of the plane and the snakes on the screen. It may even have necome a cult classic if it was in 3D, but it ended up being a dumper of a movie.

So far as in ever, in the history of movies, the worst movie ever? Yes. Definately. Who would have thought it would ACTUALLY be about snakes...on a plane?

The snake went into someone's eye? That sounds like a great movie!!! :-)
The worst film ever is Dracula 3000. Ask Lanna, she knows.

I think Anchorman was the worst ever. Or anything by Will Ferrell. He's just not funny.

That what made it so howlingly stupid.
I never laughed so hard in my life.
The movie was ludicrious beyond belief, but everyone was so earnest in it.
This was like "Tremors" or "Army of Darkness"
