So, you're never heard of Joltin' Joe. You've heard SImon & Garfunkel's "Mrs Robinson"?

JOE DIMAGGIO - 56 consecutive games.

He was stopped for one game, by the defense of Ken Keltner, and then went another 17 consective games with at least one hit in each game.

Wee WIllie Keeler is second, with 44 games in 1897. Pete Rose's 44 games (1978) tied Keeler for the NL lead and for second in MLB.

In 1987, Paul Molitor hit in 39 straight games, and his streak stopped when he was in the on-deck circle in an extra-innings home game when the winning run crossed the plate. That was still only 2/3 of the way to matching DiMaggio, and it put him second in the AL.

Did you know...

Immediatley following his 56 game streak ended, DiMaggio started yet another streak hitting safely in 16 consecutive games? An amazing 72 out of 73 games with a hit

Well everyone already said it Joe Dimaggio. But I think the person who wrote Cal Ripken Jr. was thinking of just most consecutive games played, so in a sense they weren't that far off, they just misunderstood the question.

I agree though, that record is going to stick for awhile.

Joe DiMaggio, with 56. Truly one of the only records in baseball that has the best chance of not being broken anytime in the near future.

Joe DiMaggio got a hit in 52 consecutive games. He holds the record. Cal Ripken Jr. merely played in the most consecutive games.
