They believed that property was not to be owned by individuals, but was a collective asset for the betterment of society as a whole. All things belonged to all people, and the workers controlled the property and means of production, and therefore, in their view, all men were equal in ownership and no one was superior/inferior. It was done to create a classless society. Private property puts the owner ahead of the proletariat who only have their labor to sell, as opposed to the bourgeosie(spelling?) who owned land and business that could be used to turn a profit. Failed attempt at forced equality. So property was very important, as it was the root of power, and should be even through all men.

Engels - friend and supported of Marx. Wrote the famous 'Communist Manifesto' together. Though capitalism, by itself, was bad because it treated people as commodities. Unlike during the middle ages, the state or church had no responsibility to protect the common working person. Capitalism also bad because it sucked the surplus to the capitalist, and made the worker poor. Capitalism was destabilizing because the looser of competition would cause recessions, panics and other economic problems until the whole thing resulted in revolution. Marx was largely right in this respect, which is why governments began controlling capitalism and instituting welfare and worker safety laws. The first in Germany by Kaiser Wilhelm. Ironically, because governments reformed capitalism, capitalism never was destroyed, and Marx's prediction that capitalism would be destroyed was wrong (instead, it was reformed).

They both despised the notion of privately held property|
The reason being is that private ownership gives one the freedom a person needs in life|
If he has property at his disposal, he then has power to secure and defend what is rightfully his|
But take away his property, and he is *defenseless|*
That is the whole idea behind Marxism, is to despoil individuals and families of what they own (that was the idea behind the murderous purges of Stalin that killed millions of people)|
The idea is to enslave all people to the state, so that those in charge have all the power, and can do as they please, while inflicting the worst possible torment on anyone who stands in their way|
Communism is thoroughly satanic|
Marx was a satanist who did his father's will|
Untold harm was done to the world by communism, as it is estimated that in the 20th century alone, the communists murdered 100,000,000 people|

Ownership of real estate was a lot less of a concern to Marx than the ownship of the means of industrial production. His work was more about the relationship between capitalists and the working class than it was about aristocrats and farm workers.
