I'd say Ebay, but then again you need to make sure what you are buying, I mean they could be USED or Refurbished, so be carefull on what you are buying, and make sure they have warranty and all.

Dell has cheap computers but I would recomend hat you check first ans shop around, frys don't buy a used one it does not help. but you know what you can do if you can just buy the main unit from any retailer with a good price or on sale and then buy the accessories used like the screen and keyboad , from goodwill or out of closet the are as low as $5 , $15

I want a cheap but good computer also. I received a copy of linux mandriva 2007 and i am afraid to put in on this desktop that currently has windows xp. I am looking for a cheap computer myself. I will follow up with this question. I see ebayers are selling computers for reasonable prices. However, be careful what you bid on.

go with dell, you can get an basic workhorse PC with monitor for $419 w/ 17" conventional monitor (dell Dimension E-521) $13/mo
or
$519 w/ 15" flat panel LCD (dell Dimension E-521) $16/mo

if you allready own an monitor you can get away even cheaper by just buying the box and using the monitior, speakers, etc that you already own

another option is to go by an local used computer shop you can usually get an older computer for $150-200 (Pentium 2 or Pentium 3)

keep away from e-machines though!!!!!

Not sure what you're planning on doing with it, but hcditrading.com is good for refurbished Dells. Definitely not top of the line, but you can easily get a decent PC for word processing and surfing for a few hundred bucks.
