It would need to be as big as the earths diameter and touching the earth's surface

since the sun touches every square inch of earth at some time, you'd have to have a blanket around the entire earth at any distance between the earth's surface and the closest point in which the sun comes to the earth, therefore, having it constantly blocked, therefore, killing trees, removing oxygen and killing you and everyone else. beyond this, you wouldn't need a mirror, shining the sun back at itself is not necessary to prevent it from shining on you, so, 1/2" plywood would be just as useful

You would have to have it moving with the Earth because if you put it in one spot, the Earth would just orbit away from it. You would have to put a whole mirror around the whole planet to completely shield it.
