Thats not true? I live in South Florida and I am 19 and have already had 2 jobs... just from highschool. Now dont go moving to Little Havana obviously but that isn't really true. A lot of places think its a plus if you are bi lingual but its not going to really prevent you from getting a job. Good luck

Florida is a big state - and different communities have different needs for part-time employment, and different percentages of Hispanic population.

If you have special skills, you'll probably not have a problem

If you are in a service industry that has an Hispanic clientele of any size, and you do not speak very good Spanish, a Spanish-speaker will get the job before you. If the person doing the hiring is Hispanic, there might be a preference there too.

Who can say? As a general rules, it is hard to make general rules, because there are too many factors that are unique to a single place or situation. Does the school provide any assistance in placement? Do you know any people who are already there? Do you have particular work experience or skills that you can bring to an employer?

Unfortunately, those are questions for which only you can provide the answers.

Good luck! And - watch out for hurricans and tornedo and BIG alligators

If you go to the immediate area around Miami, you will find it necessary to be bilingual to get many jobs. So you can talk to most of your customers. Florida is a huge state. The northern part is largely like the deep south, some parts very 'deliverance-like.'

My family is not hispanic and does live in southern florida and have found work there plentiful and rewarding.

I wouldn't move to Florida because of all the rednecks and because, long term, it's not going to do well with global warming.

No its not like California at all, I rarely see mexicans here, we do have Cubans but they are very different than Mexicans. I live In north Florida and I might see 2 Mexicans a week, sometimes not even that. In South Florida there are alot of Cubans but Like I said they are very different than Mexicans the Cubans are proud to be Americans and fit in very well, Ive worked with a few Cuban Americans and they actually dont like Mexicans very much. They say the Mexicans are just here for the cash and handouts and dont want to be Americans while the Cubans fled a Communist country to be Americans.
I love Florida so come on down dont let the nay sayers scare you away there are plenty of jobs and the Mexcians havent really invaded the state yet and destroyed the infrastructure and entry level jobs like they have in the west.

My daughter packed up one day on a moments notice and moved to Fla. She left with only what she could get in a car and moved her and her two daughters to Fla. Work isn't to hard to find there. It mostly depends on what you want to do for work. Restaurant work is always up for grabs. Telemarketing is also a good choice. Stores also hire.

Now I will say this about the Spanish there. They are not so much hired above whites. They just do jobs that most don't want to do. And the majority of Spanish in Fla are Mexicans. They are hard workers and are willing to do what most wouldn't think of doing.

I guess you can say that a lot of spanish do get hired instead of whites or blacks. But not because they are spanish, rather because they are willing to actually work and stick with it.

greeting from florida! Yes, take it from a native, you will have a hard time, and I will tell you, if you are in medical, do'nt even apply. I have been turned down over 30 times because of it. cant speak for any other profession though. I even tried the "can i take a night class for it" excuse...nope they dont even care that i was willing to learn.......idiots! their loss not mine.

it's true if you want to work in a restaurant as a cook, work on a construction site as a laborer, or work in an orange orchard as a picker..

other then that..if you're looking for skilled labor, you might make it..
