Left Upper Quadrant
And contrary to popular opinion on this thread, it is NOWHERE NEAR the liver. The liver is located in the upper right quadrant of the abdominal cavity, as is the gall bladder which lies posterior (behind) to the liver.
To answer Brandon W's question... the abdomen is sectioned into four quadrants in the medical field for anatomical reference:
Left Upper Quadrant (LUQ); Left Lower Quadrant (LLQ); Right Upper Quadrant (RUQ); Right Lower Quadrant (RLQ)

The spleen is located under your 7th to 10th ribs - on the left hand side. Normally, even if you press hard you should not be able to feel it, except in little babies. Danger of rupture in accidents. The spleen is where all your red blood cells get destroyed when theyre old and your bopdy doesnt want them. It also helps the immune system. In some disorders like severe thalassemia, the doc may advice you to remove it.

The abdomen can be divided into quadrants or nine sections:
starting at the top - right and left hypochonriac with the epigastrum inbetween
immediately below (posteriorly) the left and right lumbar regions with the umbilical seperating those.
Posteriorly to these are the left and right lumbar with the hypogastric nestling comfortably between them.

Isn't the abdomin broken up into six different sections?
