Pistol averaged over 44 points for 3 years playing for his dad at LSU. Played his freshman year with the freshman team(some gay rule they had back then). Played for Hawks, Jazz(New Orleans and Utah) and then had brief stint with Boston Celtics(tried to win a ring, they won it the yr after he retired). He was way ahead of his time. The game you see on tv now is the game he introduced back in the 70's. A great showboater, yet was successful at it. Wore floppy socks. YAY

The Pistol was a tremendous offensive player and probably the most entertaining ballhandler of his era. He was a Bob Cousy who could score. He averaged 44 points in college at LSU, once averaged 31 points in the NBA. He was a fantastic shooter so bear in mind that he scored all his points without the benefit of 3 point field goals. I really believe he is one of those old school guys who would still be a star if he played today's game.
That being said, he never really played on a winning team (except when he was older and played with the Celtics), so I don't know if he could really carry a team to a Championship.

Pistol Pete was way before his time with his skills. Many basketball people didnt care for his style because they called him a hotdog because of the fancy stuff he did.In college he had the highest scoring average in the history of the NCAA.People forget he didnt play for any great teams so he had to score just to keep his teams in the game. With his size and skills he would be one of the top 10 players in the NBA today no question.

Pete was a tremendous offensive player, a rare ballhandler with a hair-trigger to score. Sold a lot of tickets in the NBA in his day.
A little passive on defense, did not always get others involved, did not control games like he could have.
Still a tremendous star, a Hall of Fame legend.

"Pistol" Pete Maravich was great, I am not into sports at all but for some reason I remember him and I think experts at the time thought he would be similar to Larry Byrd in some time in his future but his freak heart attack ended everything

He averaged over 44 points a game in his college career. There was no 3 point shot back then either.
Had a leg injury that forced him to an early retirement in 1980

Very good one on one, but not good enough to carry a team to a championship.
