Are there any hockey teams close to Monterey, California?
Getting ready to go out there for about a year and a half and love going to hockey games!
I don't know much about California and won't have a car so they would have to be fairly close to Monterey.
If they don't have hockey are there any other sports out there?

I would have to say that the closest team to Monterey would be the San Jose Sharks. The L.A. Kings and the Anaheim Mighty Ducks also play in California.

As most people have already anwered, San Jose is going to be the closest professional ice hockey team. There are also the Stockton Thunder, the Fresno Falcons and the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL. But if you're willing to drive an hour or more to go to San Jose, then why not fly an hour or so and go to Las Vegas to see the Wranglers. Before I moved out of LV, I was a season ticket holder and always enjoyed myself there. Great family entertainment (really), and then you have Vegas to enjoy after the game!

Sharks for pro hockey. there is no ice in monterey or santa cruz county either. You need a car out here for sure. Sharks is about an hour away. Great place for great games. there are people from the Navy base who play and go to the games (if you are in the service). there was a Navy guy on my hockey team from monterey before he got transfered

It looks like the closest NHL team to Monterey would be the San Jose Sharks. You'll have fun watching Joe Thornton (one of the best forwards in the world right now) and Jonathan Cheechoo.
Be sure to see them when Anaheim is in town. That has turned into one of the biggest rivalries in hockey.

If your going to go to a hockey game in california, go to either a sharks or ducks game. Don't bother going to a Kings game. They are like watch paint dry.
The only minor pro-league in the area is in Fresno, which is further than the Sharks by about an hour.
Suggestion would be to take a train/bus/plane ride either up to San Jose or down to Anaheim.

The San Jose sharks are probably the closest thing to you, but there are also the Ducks in Anaheim, and the Los Angeles Kings.Sorry I cannot name any sports out there, because I live in Southern California, so I don't know of any minor league teams around there.

if you're talking about NHL teams, it'll be a stretch for you without a car. Monterey is in between San Jose and Los Angeles, two of the three cities in California that have an NHL team.
if you're talking about any CA-based team, you can try the ECHL. They have teams in Central California

The closest would be San Jose which is about 70 miles north of Monterey.

No, there is not hockey teams near there, because there is already three hockey clubs in California. I don't know much if they have any sports teams.

The closest team is the San Jose Sharks which is at least 30 mins. away. You could go on weekend trips up there, check out the bay area, then head south for Joe Thornton.
