Some times, when I turn the key, fuel pump starts and car runs for while and then stops. Afterwards, the fuel pump refuses to start. I have 1.5 Quarter of a Gas left in my tank. I plugged it in, and battery seems to be working fine, it seems that fuel pup just does not supply the gas to the engine when it is very cold. Now, I added gasline antifreeze and fuel ijector cleaners but still the fuel pump does not starts. One of my friend suggested me to change the fuel pump, but it runs well when temp is above -20 degree centigrade. So, I dont want to spend money on it. Is there is a way to start the fuel pump somehow?. I can easily recognise that I have a probelm with a fuel pump as when I turn on the engine key, I hear some noise indicating that fuel pump started, but when I dont hear that it means fuel pump did not start, and car would not start either. Soemtime, I hit the fuel pump with soemthing, an dthen it starts, but this time, it would not. Any suggestions ?

To trouble-shoot an in-tank fuel pump, you may have luck by:

Have a friend turn the key to the on position while you are under the laying on the ground next to your car near the tank. If you cannot hear the fuel pump start to whir for a second in the tank, bang on it with your hand or a piece of soft wood. If your pump fires up with this treatment, then your pump is bad.

In the above circumstance, the extreme cold is causing the metal around the pump mechanism (which is attached directly to the pump motor) to contract and bind the plastic bushing and interior components of the pump (no metal on metal, to avoid sparking!). Metal contracts, plastic/rubber compounds don't contract so much in cold. A good pump will overcome this initial resistance and warm up right away. A pump on it's way out, will sieze up and be unable to overcome the resistance to turn the pump mechanism.

Good luck!

Well, you either have a short in your fuel pump wiring. Or the most likely answer is this. Your gas has frozen in the fuel line. Where the fuel antifreeze is not able to reach. Do you park your car outside? Cause the windchill will make it colder as well. I had this problem too. My fuel pump would freeze up. The pump will not start because it is froze, with gas. The pump will not turn on due to cold weather. its weird. You must keep a good amount of gas in your car in the winter to keep if from freezing.

It sure gets cold where you live. The problem could be water in the gas tank or fuel lines. It could also be the fuel pump relay, fuel pump, or something as simple as a bad ground or bad electrical connection. Are you getting any error codes on your computer? Any check engine lights.?

move to a warmer city or invest in some more gas for your gas tank any moisture in the gas will freeze and stall the pump if you buy good gas and and and keep no less than half full you will have less pump problems if you allways run the tank down to 1/4 or less you lose the thing that cools and lubes the pump then I would vote for a pump problem

based on what you are saying the fuel pump is just weak enough not to work in extremely cold weather but will still work when it is warm, you may try replacing the fuel pump relay first to see if that fixes it but you will most likely have to replace the pump

jared with my fifty plus years of dealing with every mechanical problem in the book I would say that you need to change your fuel filter. Hope this helps
