She did not press charges at the time and it has now been 9 years and she is finally feeling like she should do something about it to get some closure. Does anyone have any advice about what she can do or ways I can help her? Especially if anyone has been through something similar. I've been looking for websites with legal information about what she might have to do to proceed but haven't had much luck. We live in Australia and I have considered telling her to call legal aid and she is also considering contacting the taskforce who investigated the case 9 years ago. I think it would be really useful if there are some articles about similar cases or any information, especially detailing what she'll have to go through so she is prepared. Any more advice would be greatly appreciated!

I guess I should have explained a little better - she is aware that she will have to press charges. What I'm looking for is more information I can give her about the procedings and what she will go through. That's why I'm looking for articles and stories of people who have been through similar things. Thanks again xx

www.ndaa.org/pdf/sexual_assault_statutes.pdf
This is a website that lists the statute of limitations by state for rape and other sexual crimes. You need to see what your states laws are and then if your friend is within the time limit she needs to go to the police station and file a report. The teacher will then be tracked down and a trial will be held unless the teacher decides to admit to this. Most likely the teacher will fight it because the crime happened so long ago there will be no physical proof anymore and it will be your friends word against the teachers. A whole lot of painful memories will be dug up and sifted through by complete strangers and it will be embarassing and awful for your friend to have to relive that experience again and again. Lawyers will go over it repeatedly and then again for judge. Your friends character will be in question because it helps to determine whether or not she is likely to be making this up. I do wish for her sake she would have pressed charges at the time because this teacher deserves to pay for this crime but I am afraid that after all these years it will only bring up those memories again and there will not be enough proof for a conviction. If your friend needs closure then she should try therapy or a rape victims group. Good luck!

Hi Angie Mac!!!
I definitely suggest you to help her taking this all the way to the legal aspect of this. Who knows how many more girls, boys and woman, may come forward because she will expose him!!!
Who knows if he is still abusing others, and hasn't being caught!!!! The same exact reasonn that she had to keep her secret until now, could be the same reaso why others be in the same position.
Ask her to do this for her own mental health. And also ask her to seek professional help. This will definitely will help the case, if an arrest is in place!!!
She should think on how many more lives's she could save from going through an experience like that!!!
Be brave, be strong for her!!! She would need you in more than one ways!!! She should seek help as soon as possible even before this whole thing starts taking place, she needs some professional advise as she would re-live all the incidents happening to her. I wish you both they best!!!
And he definitely should pay from his crime committed!!!
GOD BLESS YOU, GOOD LUCK & HAPPY LIFE
A.Z.

She should volunteer in rape crisis to help victims choose to empower themselves and retaliate against their abusers. She really can't do much about the hs teacher at this point I don't think.
