Normally with good care a toyota would last 300,000 miles, so what are some common toyota care neglection that people do and that i should look out for? Be very detailed.

The biggest thing I can think of would be to ignore the timing belt replacement at 60-80K miles. On most high output japanese engines, they are whats called "interference motors". If the timing belt goes out, the valves may strike (or interfere) with the piston and become damaged or bent. A bent valve can cause all kinds of problems. And lets say that happened and they made a cheap repair decision, they had the head removed and the valve replaced, but didn't mill the head, repair or replace the piston or otherwise do a thorough job. The valve seats and seals may no longer be good as a result of the bent valve damaging them.

Well anyone that doesnt change/add oil as needed would quickly kill the car. Also constant flooring the pedal will take its toll, see how the transmission shifts when driving, when the engine is running unscrew the oil cap and listen to the engine....if you here a knocking noise or a sound that is out of place the you have slapping valves. Look at the engine compartnemt as well see if there is any oil leaking and if any is under the car, take a flash light with you. Im guessing your going to be purchasing a car and not trashing one now lol. Hope this helps a bit.

Never change the oil, never change the filter, never change the coolent., the only thing that will kill a car is heat or cold that splits the block.. low oil =heat, bad oil wont oil the moving parts= heat, low water or bad thermostat= heat, never change the plugs starts to miss-heat, choke the engine no air it runs rich go up a long hill foot down on the accelator=heat, just remember preventive maintenance will make a car, any car , American made or forgien to run way past what some people find there car dieing at

I think PCV valves are too neglected in addition to transmission fluids.

On Edit: When you have the oil changed, have them put a little bit of oil in the filter before replacing as this will prevent a dry start.

300k is a real stretch. You should change your oil at intervals no more than 5000 miles apart. You should change all filters reguarly. You should change the plugs once a year.

Besides the oil, the best thing you can do is to drive it like you want it to last. No heavy acceleration. Just keep it nice and smooth.

Don't have an aircleaner on. Dirt in the air does a swack of damage. A month of careful driving avoiding the dust and compression will still go from 160 to half that.

Drive it like a rental car.
Don't change the oil. Don't slow down for speed bumps and potholes.

Disclaimer:
I don't suggest driving like that. It can damage safety-related suspension components.
