Don't worry about the human race, if the peace officer pulled you over it is because you committed a traffic infraction or you or he fit the description of a known felon. However if the police officer specifically said that he pulled her over because he had a black person in her car report it to his commanding officer. Good luck trying to prove anything

You had a very interesting topic. I am a 21 year old African American. I currently live in San Bernardino, California. Right now i am in training to become a Highway Patrol Officer. There is no way that a police officer can stop you just because you have a man of color in your car. In the state of California, an officer of the law has to have a cause to stop you rather its, speeding, tint is too dark on your windows, or no registration. But an officer should not and can not stop you without probable cause. If i was you i would right a annonimous letter to his department, or to some type of authority that is a higher rank then him, and let them know the siuation. So to answer your question, NO you can not be stopped for having a passenger of color in your car. Its called RACIAL PROFILING

When you mentioned small town. This is not to uncommon in small towns where everybody knows everyone Else's business. His intentions may have been a concern for the white lady. He should have backed off since it was know she was not in any danger. Curiosity got the better of him. I feel for the black man. But they are conditioned to this type of treatment all the time. If your mother in law lives in this small town, she should consider her reputation. Nothing against the black man, but these U S are far from being racial prejudice free. No no law enforcement officer has a right to question one choices as friends. But he will find many reasons to stop you. Just feel glad he didn't take the both of them out into the woods and hang them.

Leaglly no the police can't stop you for who you have in your car. You can sue the police department as well as the cop that pulled you over for no reason (for discrimination) and the police can not search your car without your permission or a warrant

Really, they shouldn't be able to do that, but they get away with it, it's a way of life, until we take a stand, it will continue. Reading your post gave me hope that there are still fair people left in the world.
Black men are often pulled over for simply DWB (driving while Black) as for what you said, I can't add that much.....you said it all.......so .........Amen!

You can be stopped for any reasonable cause. How would you feel if mom had not been stopped and was a kidnap victim? Feel free to complain to the chief and have an investigation conducted.
