no. Na and Cl ions ae not harmful to our body, but excessive amounts can cause damages, especially with the kidneys.
we dont drink salt water because salt retains fluid and therefore, enables the body to become dehydrated alot faster than normal.
An excess in salt water can also lead to an inbalance in the salt and potassium channels that surround our cells, therefore causing an inbalance in the osmolarity of the cell.

Na or Cl is not harmful. in fact they're needed, just in the right amount. Na+ and Cl- are actually adding to the salt you have in your body already and creating a hypertonic solution. The ionic gradient in your cells is such that if more salt is added to the extracellular solution osmosis will try to balance the ion gradient between the cell membrane. Lower salt concentration in the cell will flow to the extracellular fluid to try to balance the Na+ concentration and your cells will essentially loose water. So by drinking salt water you're actually becoming more dehydrated then originally.

The salt concentration in salt water is higher than that in your body, so your body will actually pull water out of your system in an attempt to dilute the salt water you just drank. In a sense, you will dehydrate yourself by drinking water.
