A monomial is a polynomial that has only one term. As long as you are not adding or subtracting another term it's still a monomial.

2xy is a monomial

2xy/4 is a monomial

2x + 4y is a polynomial with 2 terms (a binomial)

You can be multiplying, dividing or raising to a power and it's still just one term. It's when you add or subtract that you get more than one term and it's no longer a monomial.
