Mammals are warm-blooded, so mammals use a lot of energy to maintain their warmer body temperatures. Mitochondria release this energy from glucose.

Lizards bask in the sun to warm their bodies. They do not get the heat from energy obtained from aerobic respiration in the mitochondria.
