Oblately spheroidal in appearance ( the opposite of an egg, which is an elongated spheroid ), due to its rapid rate of rotation on its axis, it has many horizontal belts of reddish and yellowish hue. It also has a large red spot, bigger than the Earth, which has been visible for hundreds of years, and spectroscopic analysis shows that the red colour is due to sulphur.
