Set the smaller number as x, and the other will be x + 4.
x + (x + 4) = 28
2x + 4 = 28
2x = 24
x = 12; thus x + 4 = 16

my answer sure wasn't new math. i took 1/2 of 28 =14 and then took 1 away from 14 to make it 13 and added 1 to the other 14 to make it 15 i did this until i got 4 in between the numbers and then added them together to get 12+16 =28. I don't think this was the way you are to do this but that's how i did. the difference between 12 and 16 is 4.

a - b = 4
Substitute a in terms of b: a = 4 + b
Then, plug this substitution back into the other equation:
a + b = 28
(4 + b) + b = 28
4 + 2b = 28
2b = 28 - 4
2b = 24
b = 12
Since a = 4 + b, then plugging in b = 12 into this equation results in: a = 4 + (12)
a = 16

12 and 16. I divided 28 in half, got 14, then subtracted 2 from 14 to get 12, and added 2 to 14 to get 16. thus giving a difference of 4.

it is the form you do it. First, upload the numbers. 28+4 = 32. Then, divide the numbers by 2. 32/2 = sixteen. that's one type. next, subtract the version from the variety you found. sixteen-4 = 12. The numbers are 12 and sixteen.

Let the numbers be x and y.
Since their sum is 28, x+y=28.
Since their difference is 4, x-y=4
To solve the equations, you can add the two together to get:
2x=32
x=16
Then plug x back in to find y:
16+y=28
y=12
So the numbers are 12 and 16.

x+y=28
x-4=y
take first equation and solve for y:
y=28-x
now plug 28-x into the second equation where the "y' is:
x-4=28-x
2x=32
x=16
y=28-x, so y=28-16=12
check:
16+12=28 and 16 and 12 have a difference of 4... so it works
