I think a better question is: Why do people who go & audition for American Idol & get rejected because they can't sing ask the judges, "Who gives you the right to judge me?" Ummmm.... duh! I think that's why they're called "judges"... because they're being paid to JUDGE the contestants.

That's like going on a job interview & asking the interviewer or potential boss, "Who gives YOU the right to determine if I'm right for the job."

And just because Simon is English doesn't mean he's deaf! I may not always agree with him, but he's certainly not a stupid man. His "talent" is finding talent. He doesn't have to be able to sing. His job is to know how to market an "Idol" so that the public will buy their music after the competition is over. If they can't sing & aren't marketable, he can't do much with them. That's why the judges are weeding out the contestants that don't "fit" the description of an "American Idol".

No, he was a judge on the original version of Idol in Britain called "Pop Idol." Also, he is a producer who has worked with Il Divo, The Spice Girls etc. etc.

About his right to judge people, it's up to your opinion. Enough people in Britain and America except his judging and he was selected to be a judge on "World Idol", which is when, all Idol winners competed in an Olympic like competition. Therefore, I believe enough people find him qualified.

I can't play guitar. That doesn't mean I have no right to say that Jimi Hendrix was a great guitar player.

I think Cowell is primarily a producer or some sort of record executive. That doesn't mean he doesn't know good singing when he hears it, he is probably a better judge of singing than most singers.

Cowell's income is estimated at £54.25m/year, so he's obviously doing something right.

30 million Americans seem to disagree with you that he is not qualified to judge, as they tune in every week to the most popular television show in America .

yes he;s the producer of il divo. il divo is good right? thats why they have simon behind them.
who's the great ppl behind all the pop stars and actors/actress? of course the producers and director right? they're just background.. but the position is important too..
if they're not there, the actor and singers weren't that famous nowadays..
the one who scold him is only the one who can't really sing.. and got rejected.. thats why they're so angry.. just like that..
so, i dont think that someone would judge him like that.. he's not a singer, but he got talent in choosing talented ppl.

All he is is a slimeball. He wouldn't know talent if it hit him in the face.
