he believed that the earth was round...and then he wanted help to organize an expedition..plus he wanted to reach some islands other sailors found and got lost and never found it again..there were soo many theories at that time about the shape of the earth that the king did not believe him,, and he didnt care about the shape or the earth or the canarian islands..he went to spain and asked for help then the queen Isabela gave him money, 3 ships and let him take criminals from prison as sailors, and a couple of real sailors..then they came to america.. and the criminals started raping the female indians and killing most of the males since they fought for their women..not that much chance for the indians to succeed since there was no gunpowder...south america gave spain a real headache. spaniards almost lost when they faced Ruminahui half brother of Atahualpa the inca emperor at the time General Pizarro came ..after ravaging what is now puerto rico and dominican republic..
