There is this girl at my school, and she'll sneak glances at me and stare at me sometimes when she thinks I'm not watching, but won't hold any eye contact with me directly. What could be reasons for this?

Probably she has seen you some place else, or she admire you some how.
I suggest you approach her and ask her, some times people do this things and they don't even realize themselves, they are doing it!!!
Just ask her and get it over with, like that you probably will know if you have a new friend or NOT!!!

Your a female and so is she, right! Perhaps she is mesmerized by you, she finds you attractive. She probably doesn't want to approach you for fear of being ridiculed. Or maybe she would like to be just friends.

Maybe she would like to get to know you better but is too shy to talk to you. You could always just be friendly and say hi or ask her how she's doing for starters.

she probably thinks that you are very pretty and what she would like to be. she wants to study you so that she can attempt to be more like you are. when you catch her staring, she looks away because she is embarrassed.

Ask her. Directness will cure the problem, either she admires you a lot or you remind her of someone.
