i need something to keep me occupied while i wait to move. i have about a month and a half until i can move, and until then i really cant spend any money. there are almost no events going on where im living and when something does happen it costs money. its also fairly cold out, which limits the amount of time i can spend out side.
normally i would learn to play a new musical instrument, but that costs a bit too much.
any suggestions for a hobby that costs little to no money and is also fairly time consuming?

Origami is pretty inexpensive, you can buy the papers or cut your own, and there are lots of books out there, library is filled with them so once again, minimal cost. and it can be time consuming and satisfying, you can create dioramas with animal folds, floral arrangements, household decorations, jewelry to sell, christmas ornaments (The Museum of Natural History decorates their tree entirely in origami) and it is easy enough to start, and yet can be plenty complicated, thus keeping your mind occupied.

Learn to knit basic washcloths. You'll need a tiny outlay of money for a pair of needles; that'll be about five bucks at Joanns. Grab a ball of cotton yarn, your choice, about two bucks. Then get online and check out some knitting tutorials or go to the library and check out a copy of something like Stitch & ***** and go.

How about volunteering in your community hospital, soup kitchen, food pantry, animal shelter, etc, etc etc. You could do a lot of good in a month and a half. Even if you cannot afford the gas to get to a volunteer site tell the coordinator and they will help you get there. Trust me, the good feelings you will generate will follow you into your new home and new life. Good luck.

decoupage on anything, start a scrapbook and cut pictures from magazines and such. It can be very time consuming! You can decorate empty jars, boxes etc. Modpodge works great for the glue and you can pick it up at walmart or any craft store.

Get a pad and pencil and write a story perhaps even a novel. Good fun and it stretches the mind.
