I really want to go abroad for a semester in my senior year to Italy or Spain and stay with a host family while going to school. However, IT IS SO EXPENSIVE! so i was wondering if it was cheaper to have a student from the country I wanted to go to actually switch with me?

You are right. It is expensive!

There are ways to get around it, however.
When I was an exchange student with Youth For Understanding, I got a full scholarship. YFU has several!
