My Ex husband has gotten a court order to appear in court for contempt, due to non payment of child support, and failing to keep his appointments with the state case worker.

He has been ordered for child support for 8years now. He maintained to pay as little as possible. he has also gotten away with getting a small paying job for about 6 months at a time. I guess he figured at least he was working. Our state (La) child support enforcement case worker has pushed this issue for me. He has gotten 2 other women pregnant since our divorce 8 years ago, and these cases are also being brought up into this hearing.

they will find him and put him in jail for 60 days i believe. At the end of 60 days they will simply re book him if he still refuses to pay what he owes. While he's in jail he will still owe child support, so jail is not a way of escaping payments.

Basically, the prosecutor will aruge that he has not fulfilled his court ordered responsibilities and he will give testimony proving that he has, or explain why he hasn't, and then there will be a judgement against him or the contempt will be dismissed.
Usually unless there's a good excuse there will be a judgement agasint him. The judgement can be jail time or additional fines, in addition to the things he's already been ordered to do.

The judge will give him two options: pay his arrears or go to jail. By the time he gets out (if you continue to pursue support), they will have issued an order for garnishment of his wages or offered him a payment plan.

I do not know where you are... but in Canada, contempt is actually an undefined term in the Canadian Criminal Code, nor are there pre-determined penalties for contemp. A judge makes that decision. Failure to show respect for a judge and the court and to disobey a judge's orders may cause her/him to declare a contempt charge.

I have no idea, but one CAN be jailed. I thank my stars I paid all my child support payments on time and am completely done with that. Not every one can say that.
