I have wondered that myself.

In America, it is "Nancy boy", or was in the 60's and 70's.

Why did they pick "Nancy" rather than some other female name?

It was a deragatory term used to describe a man who was thought to be more feminine or gay. I don't think that term has been used since the 70's.
