can't connect to internet with ethernet cord. how do i turnoff internal modem on apple ibook g3?

i just go tthis today and there is a spot for an ethernet cord, but it keeps trying to dial the internal modem. how do i shut that off?

remove the cable from your 56k modem and set up your ethernet
