Maybe there are a lot of people like me, searching and searching for a decent question to answer. And then, after a while, finding something better to do.
I think the violation crackdowns on normal people like me have "dumbed down" Y!A.

I agree with you. The same question was put this morning by someone else. There are a number of different reasons.
It used to be a useful, interesting and pleasant website: it is no longer so.
Serious questions meet with flippant answers. Serious, well researched or documented answers are ignored in favour of something absurd. Some people ask questions and once they have the answer they needed never bother to choose a best answer and leave it to others to vote . Many voters do not have the required knowledge to choose the correct answer and vote at random just for the points. Some people who have no knowledge of a subject post ridiculous, inaccurate, or fabricated answers which are obviously lies, or reword an entry above their own to gain points. Some have recourse to search engines which only give approximate information and do not really offer the information required. Linguists who offer help are reported and sent violations for "using the wrong language". Harmless Q and As are sent violations and people are afraid of losing their whole Yahoo account as a result.
The site has become a playground for juveniles who play games, indulge in the equivalent to verbal Tourette's syndrome, or trolls who post mischievious or offensive answers. When it is someone in serious need of help, advice and encouragement who gets that kind of response, they are hurt and put off the site.
The same questions come back ad nauseam, especially on topics that are totally boring such as who should have won Big Brother. Some questions are rude, sexist, raciallly or politically offensive and attract answers of the same kind. You find yourself facing the same list, or a permutation of it, and since there is nothing there to offer mental stimulation, you turn to a different forum such as the BBC's where answers are absolutely awsome. In the end it becomes a vicious circle and mediocrity generates more mediocrity.
It is sad because there used to be many genuinely knowledgeable, pleasant, kind and helpful contributors who have dropped out, and who can blame them?

I wonder if it has to do with the very slow like NO service or response from the Yahoo ANswer team when you contest a violation that a troll hit you on. I have replied back 3 times and two months later, still nothing from them. They do not have their duckies on line. Poor management there. This site has no money involved just pride. So I suggested to take some level 7 people, volunteers of course, to handle violation notices. There word would be the final say, cuz some ways you can get a violation are soooo petty. I am surprised they do not have a violation for misspelling. But then 90% of the people would really get violations. Well, I do not report abuses no more. So I will let it run rampant now, reflecting a lot of other peoples attitudes.

Because once you have answered "why are people racist", "why are christians retarded" There is not too many more questions. THen, people have gotten tired of having to dig through stupid questions like "why aren't you as smart as me?" , "Will Hillary Clinton have lesbian sex with me for my vote", and "Who will give me an enima" to get to a lucid, serious question, you are tired of jacking with it. To add to that, you have do dig through all the asinine celebrity questions, that never seem to end or get resolved. Then, it seems that YA has been turned over to 3rd graders who are snickering about asking questions about sore nipples, is my girlfriend pregs but we have not had sex.
Finally, It is frustrating to have to translate a question from some absolute jibberish like this: "im going 2 a par t tonite what 2 wear and should i drink b4 it if u have been to a par t plz tel me ur xperience w/it, *** on ppl, 4 real?" into english.
But other than that, it is lovely.

Could be school schedules, or weather conditions. In Chicago it's minus 4 degrees! So a lot of people that normally hang out want to be indoors. Then again it could be school schedule related. When you notice the change in people theres usually a good reason.

yes.
i have been on less because my avatar is gone.
for about a week now.
and a lot of avatars are missing.
this might sound stupid, but it's my identity here.
now i'm just some carbon-copy cartoon.
okay...i was still a cartoon...but i was a unique cartoon.
and now sometimes my name doesn't even come up.
well...my name that is not my name.
but anyway...it's like they have stripped me of my false identity!
and i feel exposed and naked.
okay...i'm just frustrated.

yes, I think so too - but that is the way is goes, in waves. some people don't stay long, others go away and come back later - you never know who you might meet!

Yes, and most people do not like to endure the rude, de-grading , full of hate, questions. Some of the answers are so rude, and dis-respectfull.
