I use to ride old standard motorcyles kz and gs models. I have rode a norton chopper. I love and have rode yamaha xs650's. I am looking for something new with lower maintenance and easy riding. I work for yamaha and can get a deal but none of them appeal to me. Any other suggestions?

There's only two kinds of guys who ride motorcycles;
1. Those who ride out of a passion for motorcycles, and
2. Those who need to compensate for something.

If you have a passion for motorcycles, you know which motorcycle to buy because your passion tells you. You will never be happy with anything else. That's what you MUST buy.

If you're trying to compensate for something, you're looking for the approval of others, and the greatest amount of approval (at least the largest group offering approval) is directly connected with the brand name "Harley Davidson".

Personally, I have a 1955 BMW for the deco art styling, the Earles front end which cancels out all braking dive just by clever engineering, the drive-shaft ring/pinion that cancels rear end dip on accelleration, the horizontally opposed twin with the exhaust valve into the wind, the magnito AND generator so it will start with a flat dead battery . . . every . . . single . . . time. If I could own just one bike, any bike in the entire world, this is the bike I would choose. I have the bike of my dreams.

And I own a 1960 Matchless 650, the worlds worst motorcycle ever. It leaks fluid from everyplace it has fluid. The petcocks dribble gasoline down the gas lines onto the transmission, the forks leak fluid down the front wheel, the trans leaks fluid onto the chain which flings it all over my pants, the oil reservoir drains slowly past the scavenger pump into the dry sump, out the labyrinth seal onto the garage floor until all but a quarter cup remains in the bike. But this baby can ride. Grab a handful of throttle and "It pulls like a Matchless". You just KNOW you're going somewhere, and fast, and it won't let you forget it with the absolutely perfect exhaust note and vibration entering your body through every point of contact. When sitting at an idle, the rocking couple imbalance of the engine causes the front wheel to vibrate up and down like a horse chomping at the bit waiting for the gate to open. This, then, is the bike of my wet dreams.

So you have to decide who you are to know what bike to buy.

I'd like to address the comments about the high number of recalls. Recalls aren't really a bad thing. What a high number of recalls should tell you is that Polaris doesn't wait until the next model year to fix a known problem like most vehicle companies. The fact that Victory bikes are supported like that is, in my opinion, a testament to the loyalty Polaris has for its customers. Once again, that's just my opinion. After all, I can't afford a Victory!

Victories are great bikes! Dont be one of these Harley Davidson clones...you'd be buying a name only. Harley hasnt ever built a bike worth the price you'll pay for it. I had a 2005 Vegas...LOVED IT! I recently moved up to an 06 Hammer....WOW! These bikes offer the closest thing to a "sportbike" riding experience you can get without a backache....I also have an 02 Hayabusa, so I know about back aches! Victory builds top quality bikes that are very forgiving and low-maintenance...do your homework and find the right bike for you. Go to a couple Victory owners club sites and get all the pros and cons you need!! Good Luck, and ride safe!

Joe, I look at this way ...everybody's got to ride their own ride. I have friends that own, ride and love the Victory and because one of them bought used I'm pretty sure is holds its value. If that's the bike that makes your heart beat a little faster, the one you see your self riding in your dreams.....then go for it and to hell with what anyone else thinks. For me its the Kawasaki Drifter to me they're a rolling piece of art. I love em so much I bought two of them....yet I've had other people laugh and say they look like something their grandpa's would ride.

Ride safe brother

i have a 04 vegas with 22k on it. it runs perfect and is the perfect bike for me. do i wish i had bough a HD, no, i don't buy into all the hype. HD's are fine, if that is what you really want go get it. nothing is a bigger downer than buying something you wish you hadn't. with me it's not what ya ride but that you do ride. that being said, Victory makes one great bike, just be ready to answer a lot of questions about it, it is a head turner. and don't buy a bike as an invest, that's just plain un-american. no matter what ya get, ride safe!!!

If your main concern is return value, invest your money in stocks or CDs.
All motorcycles are fun to ride.
Victory is said to have the best American VTwin engine. Air-cooled VTwin motorcycle engines are old tech as is seperate engine/tranny.

victory is a wanna-be harle. almost has the harley rumble, chrome out the ***, and from a distance, it looks like a harley. only difference is they're slightly cheaper than harley. at least they're 1 of 2 bikes that's actually american made instead of importing all this rice.
