It was a bit of misinformation leaked by the RAF to the Germans during the WWII to explain the ability of the RAF pilots and bombers to find their target. It was never true or a superstition but it always made us eat our carrots when Mom repeated it.
I can only think of one food superstition. Throwing salt over your left shoulder to keep bad luck away after you have spilled some.

Well, carrots DO have certain vitamins and minerals that help ypou eyes, so yes. When Spanish Conquerers came to Peru, the Indians there belived that potatoes cured headaches, stomachaches, broken bones, colds, and other things too. Though scientists have found that potatoes have many things that help cure these things, most of it was probably the power of placebo.

It's not a superstition, it's an urban legend. It's also false. Carrots are good for your eyes since they contain lots of Vitamin A, but they don't give you night vision.

I eat carrots all the time and had been eating them for years and I don't have night vision. Also spinach does not make you strong like Popeye, ask my brother who ate it since he was a kid and now convinced my nephew to eat it so he could grow up big and strong.

It's a wives tale. It's a story you tell your children so that they will eat carrots as most children are a little scared of the dark.

There is a vitamin-thing in carrots that helps your eyes, but I don't think they can magically give you night vision.

That's the kind of junk our parents used to tell us to get us to eat our veggies! Unfortunately we believe them unconditionally and then grow up until one day it hits you "Hey! This doesn't sound right! Better ask the folks on Yahoo Answers!!!"
