A, because hydrogen's electron configuration, 1s1, has only s orbitals, and htus has a valence shell of only 2 valence electrons max

Hydrogen because it only has the 1s1 orbital which can hold two electrons at the most, in hydrogen's case, it has one electron in the orbital. Hydrogen is only capable of one bond because it's orbital will reach maximum capacity with 2 electrons. This is an example of covalent bonding (where the electrons are SHARED between two atoms... although not always shared equally: this gets into polar covalent and non-polar covalent). An ionic bond is when an ion close to octet (say Cl) fills it's octect by taking an electron from an ion that does not want electrons (wants to lose them to reach octect) (say K). Cl needs one more electron to fill it's octect and K needs to lose one electron to reach octect, so they form an ionic bond and satisfy both needs.

The answer is A b/c hydrogen only has a valence of 2 when it bonds w/ other elements. Ionic COmpounds physically are hard crystallic structures, have high melting points, and conduct electricity. Covalent compounds melt easily, remain same molecule when in water(meaning, they don't separate into chargde particles), dont conduct electricity, and aren't very attractive.
