i don't make my own reeds, although i would like to. i sound like a dying goat when i play. i admit i haven't been playing for long but im not a patient person. i know most or all of the fingerings correctly, and i beleive it is heckel system, although im not positive)it's the school's). anything i can do to sound better faster?

well, I play clarinet and i practice ALOT! my advice: practice even more.

I play bassoon and tuba. When I first started on tuba I noticed that it helped my bassoon sound. I believe that the muscles I use in my face when playing tuba are similar to those used while playing the bassoon.

I would recommend you get a plamfier. This is something you attach to the bassoon that naturalizes and modulates the tone to make it more pleasing. It helps anyone, even amateurs.

personally even after hearing a developed bassoonist i still thing it sounds like a dying goat...sorry
