What I don't get is why everybody is making such a flippin' big dal -about being gay. I mean who really cares that a big super-star celebrity being gay... you are always hearing stuff like, "Ellen Degeneras came out as gay" or "Former NBA player, John Amaechi, comes out as gay" Why do people really care about this?

It's not like the news will have a front page report saying, "Hillary Clinton is Straight!" What does it really matter who is straight and who is gay?

PS- I'LL ONLY READ THE PEOPLE WHO WILL REALLY TAKE THEIR TIME TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION... IF YOU HAVE NOTHING GOOD TO SAY THEN DON'T BOTHER

I think it is a big deal because for so many
people for so long, they couldn't say much
if anything about their lives. Everything had
to be kept secret, because they were afraid
of being harmed for what they believed in,
or because of how they were born. This is
suppose to be a free country, but for Gays it
still isn't. So when they have the chance to
speak their minds on the subject of their lives,
they take the opportunity to do just that.
If someone is straight and they want to say
that they are , nobody is really listening.
Because they have always been able to say
exactly that. It is taken for granted, no one has
to hide how they are or what they believe in.
No one is waiting out in the streets to whip your
assfor kissing your wife good night.

I couldn't care less if someone is gay or straight, if they're nice people that's all that counts but someone on here whose gay said that's it's good when celebrities come out because it helps their cause & if that's the case than I'm for it. I have no clue as to the amount of crap that the GLBT people go through so I'm leaving it up to them & I'll listen to what they say

I agree with you. Reading about people "who are gay" is like, "wow, Ellen is what 32, and POP, now all of a sudden she's gay?" I don't think so. She always was, so whats the big deal? I don't know and I don't care to know about other gay stars either. They can come out or stay in the closet, their choice. Its not going to impact or change my life either way.

It's because there are so many people who think that being Gay is bad. When they find out that someone they respect is gay, it is somehow shattering.

For Christians, a role model who comes out as Gay is horrible. It makes it appear a bitl less evil or bad to be gay, and that's something the fundamentalists wish to discourage.

Now, to your point, if someone who was a role model for gays came out as straight, that would have more repurcussions in the gay community, and might be newsworthy.

Its a big deal because it is a sore subject in the world right now...about right and stuff like that, so when some one in the spotlight comes out every media covers it for rating, and that in its self is unethical because in the light of things it doesn't matter if you are straight or gay but the media thinks it is and can be used for their own agenda.

Well being gay is NOT accepted by most of society. So, when someone who is liked and respected is gay, it helps boost society's view of homosexuality. Also, gays have fantasies about celebrities just as heterosexuals do. Many heterosexuals say that they WILL marry that person one say. Some homosexuals feel the same way. So if they are bi/gay, that means that they have a chance. It's stupid but heterosexuals and homosexuals both do it.

It dosent matter at all to me but there are so many people so concerned over the lives of the stars, perhaps bc their own lives are boring,so they interest themselves in who came out of the closet, who's got an eating disorder, who got divourced and remarried a week later. None of this is the least bit interesting to me.

Its not so much a case of gay/straight as it is "star struck".Some people are just obsessed with anything to do with any person that they presume to be a celebrity. Living their lives through the "stars!"

ive asked questions similar to this and i sadly got horrible responses that were sadly true, people are so out of touch with their lives that they feel the need to infiltrate the peoplewho are cast as rolmodels in todays society, they need to know whos dating who and whos gat what mental condition in the celebrity world before they can deal with stuff in their own lives! you are right that it is quite annoying and stupid, but the truth is that being gay is different, it isn't bad at all, but it is very different and difference fascinates people to the point of insanity!

There are very few openly gay celebrities and well known individuals in the world compared to their straight counterparts so when one does come out it becomes a big deal.
