what is the closest in english to " Tob, tobbak el 3afieh"?

it's used when someone is useless, as much as you explain to him he doesn't get it.
I'm trying to find a proverb close to it in English, I dunno if this applies:
- Up a creek without a paddle.
- A bad workman always blames his tools

I thought that yahoo answers was recreation, but i find myself either getting abused ( my last question) or researching hard.
ok, I worked really hard for this one, had to ask around and scratch my head ( ouch)
the closest I could get is "efforts gone in vain"

haha Webby, this expression is only used in your village. How far is it from Beirut?

This is Lebanese (Arabic) Language.
You can say in English: Never be healthy again.
