What a Fun Q.
BTW Abe wasn't born in a cabin he helped his father build (Ancient Joke)
I suspect "Carpenter" didn't exactly define him in a modern sense, but without question his life was vastly different than Jeffersons. Abe HAD to actually craft items essential to pioneering life, such as fences sheds, animal pens etc. He may in fact have BUILT a dwelling.
Mr. Jefferson was more an Architect, but the design for Monticello was basically stolen from another culture. Tom may have had his hands in "designing" but his station in life was more elevated than ABES and I have a hard time believing he ever picked up a hammer or saw.
Both however had far "grander" agendas than BLUE COLLAR, and ABE even got into LAW.

Nearly as old as "Wood"

Jefferson made his living mostly as a farmer, a diplomat, and as a politician, and had interests in several other areas (architecture, philosophy, etc.)
Lincoln was a lawyer (his partner was William Herndon) in Springfield, IL.

Jefferson was an inventor. Look here: http://inventors.about.com/library/inventors/bljefferson.htm
Also recommend you take virtual tour of his house at
http://explorer.monticello.org/index.html
–some of his inventions can be seen there.
Abraham Lincoln's father, Thomas, was a skilled carpenter.
