sounds like a heater core. that price may be a little high but it doesn't sound outrageous. If i remembercorrectly you hveto pull out the entire dash to get to the heater core. This could be as muchas a 10 or 11 hr job. subabruu's are not the easiest. do you live in the cold weather? I am from florida and most people hear bypass the heater core and deal with any cold weather. bypassing a core is easy and cheap if you cannot afford the proper repair. good luck.

Heater core. It only leaks when the heater is on because that's the only time water circulates through it. It can be very time and labor intensive getting to it to change it. I'd ask around a bit and get a couple of estimates, then go ahead and get it fixed. It's too cold not to have a heater.

The cost of the heater core is probably in the area of $75.00 to $150.00, but the labor is the wild card when it comes to heater cores. The dashboard and many of the inside features must be disassembled in order to reach and replace the core. Based on normal shop rates, if the estimated time is around 6 hours, this seems about right.

Your husband is absolutely correct and that is a very good quote for replacing the heater core it is a very hard job for a Subaru. Whenever you smell antifreeze inside the car and you have a haze allover the windshield on the inside then it is diffidently the heater core.

Yow! $1000 for replacing a heater core sounds like a lot of $, but the symptoms you gave make it sound like that's likely the problem.
I'd get a couple of more estimates, but it may be that the heater core is so difficult to get to that it requires a lot of disassembly to get it out and that would be why it would be expensive.

it relatively is a huge question! it relatively is hard to respond to although as a results of fact there could be such different variables. I even have been an airplane mechanic for over eleven years now. I even have reduced in length distant places (Iraq) and revamped $a hundred seventy five,000 a year working 40 hours a week. I even have associates that routinely take contracting jobs distant places and make 6 figures. are you able to are making that funds interior the states? no longer with ease. excessive paying airplane mechanic jobs are militia government contractors, mechanics for airplane assigned to wooded area hearth contracts and of course the airways, even however the airways have been below financial rigidity for some time. Mechanics at an FBO will make decrease than an vehicle mechanic a lot extra possibly. FBO jobs are solid for gaining adventure although. I at the instant artwork as a EMS helicopter mechanic. confident it relatively is attainable an vehicle mechanic makes extra advantageous than me, although, pay is barely component to the equation. I basically artwork commonly 3-4 days a week. i'm revenues. i understand vehicle mechanics that make $eighty,000 yet they relatively stay at artwork. i in my view might relatively make much less funds and spend time with my little ones. the different component to the equation isn't any count if or no longer you get excitement from aviation. in case you think of airplanes and helicopters are cool and you have a protection orientated ideas-set, aviation could be an exceedingly rewarding occupation and you would be able to make great funds at it. airplane mechanics are component to a small team of persons who get excitement from doing what they love. confident, pilots get each and every of the attention, yet all of us understand that it relatively is as a results of fact of experienced mechanics that they are able to defy gravity and return to earth suitable.
