1) Keep the tires at recommended inflation.
2) Keep excess weight to a minimum.
3) Keep all maintenance current and complete.
4) Put an imaginary egg between your foot and the accelerator.
5) Accelerate smoothly, and when slowing down, anticipate traffic and signal lights to avoid a complete stop when it isn't necessary. You won't need to burn the extra fuel to get back up to speed.
6) Invest in a "tuner" for the little pickup. You can reprogram the computer for horsepower, torque, or fuel economy, as well as change transmission shift points, modify power and speedometer curves for different tire sizes etc.
SuperChips and Hypertech are the two leading brands, and both cost < $425.00.

Depends if it's deisel or gas...do you keep up the regular maint. on it? How many miles on it now? I was told to flush out the trans. at 60k and change the filter. Perhaps a Fiber glass tonneu cover could improve the fuel eco....hope this helps.

A good tuneup with platinum plugs.... you can also try a cold air intake and a high flowing muffler.... the better an engine breathes the more effecient it will be.... and try to go easy on the gas pedal.... :)
