Read the book if you want to know. It might seem like boring assigned reading now, but later in your life and academic career, you will begin to understand how valuable that story is.

Your school is giving you a gift by assigning this book. Not only is it important in a literary sense, but it is also a GREAT read. I agree with the first answer...just read it. Believe me when you are an adult, you will want to read it again (and again)
