no, it is not...if you divide 143 by 11, you get 13...thus, it's not a prime number.

Since 143 is less than 144, which is 12 squared,
You only need to check for factors less than 12.

2,4,6,8,10 are not factors, since it's off
3,9 are not factors since the digits do not add up to a number divisible by 3.
5 is not a factor, since 143 doesn't end in 5 or 0
that leaves 7 and 11.
Try it, You'll see that 143 is 13*11.

I should have known this because (x^2-1) can always be expressed as (x+1)*(x-1)

Prime no. means no other number can go into it except for one...using this definition is 143 prime
