I think it has to do with human nature. I must say I am happy with eveything in my life. I should probably use the word thankful. I traveled all over the world and I have seen many people that don't have much and they don't have the funds to make decisions to have better this or that. Some are happy....I think if you are happy with yourself and who you are you don't really need the material stuff to boost the ego. If you really know who you are and there is a confidence in that ....it's priceless. It is also hard to come by. It seems today people are wanting the best this and that, they are altering their bodies with cosmetic surgery...to help their self esteem. I don't get it. I think some want better than others. They believe it makes them more important. These type of people have their own culture.

Never being satisfied is purely human nature, and it's not all bad. As a species, we're always looking for something bigger and better, more functional, more useful, a new experience to make us stronger.
The more we can say "Been There" and "Done That", the more intelligent we become. Combine all this with the ambition to educate those around us of these experiences, and we come up with purpose....and progress.
I'm really glad that many of our ancestors weren't satisfied with what they had, because if they were, we'd probably still be stumbling around in caves, with a life expectancy of 30 years or so.

It's the human condition. People are naturally in a state of depression, that's why it takes effort (and money) to make ourselves happy. But, it's probably the thing that keeps the human race going forwards, the fact that noone's ever satisfied. What if nomadic peoples tens of thousands of years ago had been completely satisfied with living in caves or tents? That's where we'd still be living now. What if Alexander Graham Bell hadn't thought "you know, this telegraph thing, bit boring"?
Never being satisfied might seem like a pain, but it's not necessarily a bad thing.

It's perfectly normal. If we didn't always wants something better we'd all still be walking around beating animals over the head for food and picking berries to eat. The need to want something new and better is humanities greatest gift and curse. It gives us the drive to be innovative and come up with new ideas, but it also makes us greedy and think less of those who don't have what we have.

People are too selfish/greedy. Also, I believe in the philosphy of, "What I don't have, I want. What I do have, I hate." They COULD be happy with their lives, but I guess they just look on the bleak side of the situation (pessimist). But if you want to enjoy life to the fullest, then you'd be grateful for every single little thing you have (optimist). :)

the whole point of life is to keep experiencing new and better things. For some people it's more wealth, for others it's more knowledge or more travel. It's about the journey, not the destination.

Bah, Edison wouldn't have made the bulb, Elvis wouldn't have invented rock and George Bush would have been nice. Satisfaction is **** and over rated, old people are satisified...and they all die fast.
