Yes and No!
Sound contradicting. It is. For those who cannot hold a job because of ill health , senior citizens etc... Government should help.Senior citizens , could also work, if they could find jobs. They worked all their lives, payed in SS and if some misfortune leaves them only with Social Security Benefits.( Try to live on those ). 3% increase, Electric , gas taxes all go up by at least 25% or more, so you just go further in the hole every yr.
the rest need to be assisted in finding jobs, such as Roosevelt initiated during the depression. If you are helped in getting a job, then you too shall be a taxpayer to help those who cannot possibly work.
A Lot of people do not want to be freeloaders, but don't seem to have a choice!

Not exactly, the government should have a role in assisting the poor to work. What the wrap is on welfare is these people can set home and get a check while others have to word to support them, so why not make these people work for their support. Either in the private sector or in government jobs. the government should help to educate these people in life skills and work skills so they can become contributing members of society, but to leave somebody to live under a bridge or a family to live in a car is just wrong and only breeds more poverty. But I am against just handing them a check and letting them be vegetables.

The government should support the poor by giving them the same rights under the laws and provide them funds for economic improvement but not necessary making them depend on welfare because it will encourage laziness.

Not for the long term. Some people do have bad luck and need a little help. Besides those people pay taxes into social services as well. They should be allowed to have some of it back.

If these people are poor because they are disabled and can't work or are mentally incapable of working then yes the government should provide for them. Unfortunately there are many many nasty bad people out there who are too lazy too work because they would rather take a free ride on the government gravy train. They should be left to starve!

I think we rely on the government to much. People should help people and try to keep the government as far a distance away from everyday life as we possibly can.

Yes, every society needs an underclass so we should partially support those who can't support themselves.
