It has what is called 'wave-particle duality'. It is, in a sense, both a wave and a particle and, at the same time, neither a wave nor a particle!

Light has a dual nature; in some cases it behaves as a wave, and in other cases it behaves as a photon.

Simply put light is a wave of released energy that is made from many sources. Using the sun as one example, the sun is made up of hydrogen gas and large amounts of oxygen and nitrogen. There are constant eruptions of these gases that gives the sun its bright look from Earth. In a light bulb, the electricity ignites the tungsten filament to give light. The light is dispersed over a wave of energy it produced.
